Shadows
The story of John Cassavetes' directorial debut centers on a romance between a white guy named Tony and a black lady named Lelia in New York City. Hugh, the jazz singer brother of Lelia, is darker-skinned than Tony had assumed, which puts their relationship in peril. Shadows is commonly regarded as a precursor to the American independent film movement because it was shot on location in Manhattan with a primarily non-professional cast and crew.
