Tony Manero is a paint-store clerk in Brooklyn who would do anything to get out of his rut. Tony is a peasant in life, but a king on the disco dance floor. As the soundtrack plays one Bee Gees hit after another, white-suited Tony struts his stuff among flashing lights and sweaty, undulating bodies. Tony's social aspirations are mirrored in his relationship with his dance partner, a secretary eager to enter the glamorous world of Manhattan.
