An ultra marathon called the Iditarod Trail Invitational is the world's longest, toughest, and most remote. Competitors have to go 1000 miles across the Alaskan tundra on a bike, on foot, or on skis to win. More people have climbed Everest in an afternoon than have biked from Anchorage to Nome. But this year, twenty-six people will try to run the whole 1000 miles of the Iditarod Trail. There is a record for the fastest time. It was 12 days. Most of the time, it's more than 30. Elite athletes come to this race every year in search of purpose and excitement because they don't know what's going to happen. But the same unknowns also make this race one of the most dangerous on Earth. When someone you love dies, how willing are you to let them go?
