An army nurse named Sakura Nishi is posted to China in 1939 to help out in the wake of the Sino-Japanese War. She helps Dr. Okabe, the surgeon, with his insane workload of amputations. She shows compassion for the troops in the overcrowded wards by sexually servicing one who has lost both arms and will never be able to go home again. Despite Dr. Okabe's impotence brought on by his morphine addiction, she falls in love with him and accompanies him to the front.
