A young woman who has stolen money comes to the Bates Motel, which has its own terrible secrets. Even though this version is in color, takes place in1998, and has a different cast, it is more like a shot-for-shot remake than most. Gus Van Sant often copies Hitchcock's camera movements and editing, and most of Joseph Stefano's script is used. The music score by Bernard Herrmann is also used, but it has a new arrangement by Danny Elfman and was recorded in stereo.
