Platoon Leader
Sergeant Michael McNamara's tour veterans platoon in a Vietnamese trench camp is commanded by West Point graduate Lieutenant Jeff Knight. The handbook doesn't enable dealing with all realities, so Jeff takes responsibility and gets hurt. He returns, revered by men and superiors. Beyond the Vietcong, the platoon faces the mysterious peasants, who they protect but also fear, since some work with them, others surreptitiously with the Cong, and both face violent retribution.
