In May1978, a group of communist guerrillas from nearby Angola attack the mining town of Kolwezi in Katanga, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo, formerly Belgian Congo). Belgian mining company workers and local residents are held hostage by the invaders, who begin a bloodbath by shooting both Africans and Europeans. Since many of the Europeans were French, the French decided to organize a counterattack and send a Paratrooper Regiment from the Foreign Legion. The movie tells the stories of Delbart, a former non-commissioned officer who was about to go back to France with his African wife and child, Damrémont, who was Delbart's replacement, Bia, a Zairian doctor, and Annie, an American who is married to a Belgian engineer, as well as Non com Legion officer Federico, the French Ambassador, and the Military Attaché.
