The Taj Mahal is surrounded by a cluster of run-down houses, where Chanda (35), a domestic help, lives with her daughter Appu, who is 14 years old at the time of this writing. Chanda hopes and wishes that her daughter will pursue a better education and embrace a brighter destiny. Appu informs Chanda that she wishes to drop out of school and work as a maid like mom, which prompts Chanda to make a firm decision: she will return to school, and will even enroll in the same class as her daughter.
