The Yunagaya Domain in Tohoku was a tiny han during the era of the seventh Tokugawa shogun. However, there is a gold mine on the han. Masaatsu Naito of the Yunagaya Domain is suddenly given an order to conduct Sankin-kotai in 5 days. Sankin-kotai is a tradition in which the daimyo pays a visit to the shogun in Edo. Unfortunately, Masaatsu Naito will require 8 days to visit the shogun in Edo. Masaatsu Naito also discovers that the order was given because a high-ranking government official desires the gold mine. Also, Sankin-kotai is expensive, and the Yunagaya Domain is so small that it appears unfinished. Despite this, Masaatsu Naito embarks on an unplanned operation to finish Sankin-kotai in five days.
