Ellie King, recently widowed, visits her brother Aaron Davis and his children for Christmas while still grieving the death of her husband and daughter. Ellie makes an effort to enjoy herself throughout the holidays, even making new acquaintances with Mrs. Thompson, a local shopkeeper, and her gorgeous admirer Deputy Strode. Ellie also meets Erik, a young guy abandoned by his outlaw father who Aaron has taken in as one of his own, while settling in perfectly with her brother's household. Ellie agrees to watch Aaron's children while he travels out of town to purchase neighboring farmland for farming, but the season's festivities are jeopardized when Aaron goes missing.
