Dr. Dempsey is an American scientist who has developed an aversion to religion. He is less than pleased about being dispatched to Scotland by his employer to (dis)prove the existence of the Loch Ness monster. He finds the residents obstinate, 'primitive,' and anything but hospitable, not least because the only tourist draw is the Nessie legend.
