Clark is the only mixed kid in a sea of white kids in the summer before 6th grade. Finding that he must be "more black" to be cool, he struggles to live up to the high standards set by his urban smart parents, Mack and Gina, who are also adjusting to life in their hometown. Unprepared for the radically different set of barriers that their new town brings, the close-knit family is quickly battling to comprehend themselves and each other as they move out of the city and into the suburbs.
