When Kit Kittredge's father loses his business and leaves to look for work, the Great Depression hits her hard. Kit is played by Oscar contender Abigail Breslin, who leads a stellar cast in the theatrical debut of "American Girl." Kit and her mother must take in boarders-paying house guests-in order to keep their home. These guests turn out to be wonderful storytellers. Kit's new hobo friend Will is the leading suspect after mother's lockbox containing all of their money is taken. Kit refuses to believe Will would steal, and her attempts to uncover the truth land her and her pals in serious difficulty. The robbery, according to the police, was carried out by someone they knew. So, who did it if it wasn't Will?
