As an American journalist in Japan in the 19th century, Christopher is on a quest to find Komomo, the love of his life he promised to return to after abandoning her a long time ago. He finds himself on a shady island full with hookers and caftans, where he meets a disfigured prostitute who tells him that his beloved Komomo has died. He drinks sake with her and then asks the woman to tell him about her life later on. The prostitute reveals a dark and cruel tale about her own life and Komomo's tragic end.
