Hideo Suzuki, a 35-year-old manga assistant, seems to be locked in a cycle of laborious, low-paying work, unrealized goals, bizarre hallucinations, and unhappy relationships. His poor self-esteem and perception of himself as a supporting character in his own life result in dissatisfaction.
