Philip comes at the Usher home looking for Madeline. A mystery illness has struck Madeline and her brother Roderick Usher, causing Roderick to become extremely acute and Madeline to become catatonic. An old Usher family curse has it that whenever there is more than one Usher child, all of the siblings become nuts and die horribly. The curse's consequences grow more horrific as the days pass.
