The advent of an enigmatic family—a statuesque mother named Louisa and her handsome teenage sons—invigorates a sleepy village. Hilary, who is 16 years old, is trying hard to earn good marks in an effort to escape the small-town existence that her ancestors had. With the entrance of the strange family just weeks before the end of the school year, life becomes suddenly appealing. Hilary's father is instantly enchanted with Louisa, whilst Louisa finds a strong connection with Kadin despite her skepticism. As the town falls under the mesmerizing spell of the young men, no one but Hilary recognizes the special loyalty that binds them and the depths to which they would go to provide their mother with what she requires until it is much too late.
