During World War II, a Japanese navy captain and an American pilot who were both shot down end up on the same small, uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean. Using the logic of war, every time the clever Japanese come up with something useful, they hide it so the Yanks can't use it. The Yanks then steal it, the money from it, or the idea, or they destroy it. Still, each of them has a chance to kill or capture the other, but neither of them follows through. After a while of this pointless nagging, they decide to work together to build a raft and get on it...
