Only a horse will suffice for Jesse's upcoming 15th birthday. Jesse has no idea that her mother Brandy has been diagnosed with cancer, and her father is doing everything he can to help her get through this difficult time. He enrolls Jesse in summer camp, but when the program is canceled, he decides to have her stay with her estranged grandfather, an old, gruff horse trainer named Gauff. Recovering from Grace's death, Gauff now has to deal with the obstacles of teen negotiation. This has forced Gauff to confront his own arrogance and ask for his daughter Brandy's forgiveness.
