Col. William McNamara, a fourth-generation Army officer, is being held in a harsh German POW camp. Still, as the highest-ranking American officer, he gives orders to the other prisoners and keeps a sense of honor alive in a place where honor is easy to lose. He does all of this under the watchful eye of the dangerous Luftwafe veteran Col. Wilhelm Visser. McNamara will never give up trying to win the war, so he plans in silence while he waits for the right time to strike back at the enemy. When someone dies in the camp, he has the chance to start a risky plan. With a court martial going on to keep Visser and the Germans busy, McNamara comes up with a clever plan to get away and destroy a nearby weapons plant. He uses Lt. Tommy Hart's help without knowing it. McNamara and his men do their job with a hero's determination. In the end, he has to decide if his life is worth more than the good of his country.
