From the Life of the Marionettes
Made throughout Bergman's tax-related expatriation in Germany, the film continues the tale of Katarina as well as Peter Egermann, the feuding, childless, specialist couple that show up in one episode of "Scenes From A Marriage." After Peter commits a horrible crime in its first scene, the rest of the film consists of a non-linear examination of his inspirations, integrating an authorities emotional examination, scenes from the Egermanns' married life, and dream sequences.
