On February 23, 1945, photographer Joe Rosenthal captured six United States Marines and one Navy Corpsman hoisting the American flag atop Mount Suribachi. This is the narrative of three of the six surviving servicemen who fought in the struggle to liberate Iwo Jima from the Japanese. Their names are John "Doc" Bradley, Pvt. Rene Gagnon, and Pvt. Ira Hayes.
