The story is about a maid named Stefania Chornenko and a rich girl named Adelia Anger, whose relationship is controversial. The setting is a small town in Austro-Hungary in 1900. The fire killed both of Stefania's parents and Adelia's mother. Adelia's dad took in an orphan who lived next door. Even though Stefania was the maid, the girls grew up together and became as close as sisters. This relationship turns into a love trap, full of manipulation and jealousy on both sides, but also of care and devotion. When Adelia marries sculptor Petro, the illusion of balance is disrupted. When Stefa's old love interest, Joseph, comes back to town as the priest and a married man, things get even more complicated. Illusions always fade away, and reality becomes clear.
