Thomas Jacobs invents a device that allows him to observe people's memories from the inside. Against his better judgment, he accepts an offer to enter the memories of a heroin addict in order to determine whether he committed a crime. However, due to a glitch, his consciousness becomes imprisoned within the criminal's head. For more than four years, he remains a prisoner in the addict's memories until he discovers the possibility of escape.
