After being widowed, Frank Fogle reluctantly embarks on a journey to fulfill his wife's final wish of scattering her ashes in a remote lake in her native Ireland, with the promise of bringing his estranged son, Sean, along for the ride. Sean's thoughts are not on a foreign road trip with his estranged father as he walks out of prison. He requires a new beginning in California. When his travel plans fall through, he reluctantly accepts his father's proposal in exchange for a ticket to the West Coast and the promise that they will never see each other again. With a strange Irish wake, the reappearance of an old flame, the pick-up of a pretty hitchhiker, and a slew of unresolved issues, the journey becomes a little more than father and son had bargained for.
