Drowning
Drowning is a slow-burning psychological thriller in which the protagonist, Anna, utilizes wish fulfillment to extricate herself from an abusive cycle. Anna lacks the self-esteem necessary to survive the abuse she endures in the real world, and so she constructs a parallel universe in which she fights back. Anna is a prostitute who, for as long as she can remember, has been abused, exploited, and controlled. Anna, who is emotionally disconnected, must take control of her life, empower herself, and learn to live on her own terms. Anna confronts her enablers, her abusers, and her own problems upon her return to her childhood home.
