Frankie, 9, and his single mother Lizzie have been moving since Frankie can remember, most recently to a Scottish beach village. Lizzie makes up a lie about her deaf son's father being out at sea on the HMS Accra to shield him from the truth. Every few weeks, Lizzie writes Frankie a pretend letter from his father, filled with fascinating tales. Frankie discovers that the ship is going to dock in his hometown.
