A corporate market researcher named Joy Holbrook is on the hunt for a promotion inside her company. Joy learns from her Aunt Ruby that she has broken her ankle and will be undergoing surgery just as her company's CEO is taking notice of her. Despite the inconvenient scheduling, Joy returns to her hometown of Crystal Falls, North Carolina, to visit her aunt. While at the hospital, Joy runs into Ben Andrews, who she used to have a thing for. The stars appear to be in alignment. As a first step, Joy devotes her time and energy exclusively to assisting her Aunt's recovery, even taking over as chair of the local Cookie Crawl competition. Then she begins to let Ben in, remembering that there is no place like home during the holidays. The Cookie Crawl is a collaborative effort between the two of them to make it a success.
