After his wife breaks his cherished violin after a quarrel, Nasser-Ali, a skilled musician, loses his desire to live. When he can't locate a suitable substitute, he makes the decision to end his life. He finally does it eight days later! As the story unfolds, we get glimpses into his prior life as well as the futures of his children, as well as glimpses into his final week of life. Azarel, the angel of death, and a nude Sophia Loren also appear in the film. We come to understand the significance of his decision to take his own life as we watch the film.
