S. Lance Ingram, a repentant gang boss who has served a ten-year jail sentence, struggles to adjust to life in his old neighborhood of Harlem after his release. Having been prevented from employing the technological talents he learned while in prison, Lance is forced to accept work delivering meals for a local food bank. Ms. Maddy, 75, a former beauty with an irreverent and tough shell, whom he meets while delivering dinners, becomes his companion in this setting. Lance discovers hope in her, relearning the pleasures of life and the importance of living despite the difficulties of the society in which they are forced to live.
