German filmmaker Werner Herzog begins work on his 1982 epic "Fitzcarraldo," but immediately falls into major hurdles, from casting challenges to his own persistent unwillingness to use special effects. After having to reshoot much of the film since the lead actor was recast, his crew must next haul an old-fashioned steamboat over a mountain using only manpower. His determination to see the project through, even if it means his own death, borders on insanity as he works tirelessly to bring his vision to reality.
