Boy
Even in Waihau Bay, New Zealand, Michael Jackson is king in 1984. Here, we meet Boy, an 11-year-old who lives on a farm with his grandma, a goat, and his younger brother, Rocky (who thinks he has magic powers). Boy's dad, Alamein, shows up out of the blue not long after Gran leaves for a week. Boy thought his father was a hero while he was gone, but when he comes back, he meets the real thing: an incompetent criminal who came back to find a bag of money he buried years ago.
