Beyond the Call

Russell Gates (David Strahairn) is a Vietnam War veteran serving a life sentence for the murder of a police officer. Pam O'Brien (Sissy Spacek), his childhood girlfriend, is taken aback by the news and believes he is incapable of committing such a crime. To the dismay of her husband Keith, she writes to him and gets fascinated with the case, exhausting all possible avenues for the doomed guy. Her excursions to prison have a detrimental effect on her marriage and family.
