A vending machine theft carried out by small-time thief and drug addict Bobbie (Vincent Kartheiser) goes horribly wrong, and his buddies contact street-smart thief and part-time drug addict Mel (James Woods) for assistance. Mel recognizes a kindred spirit in Bobbie and his girlfriend Rosie (Natasha Gregson Wagner) and invites them to join him and his long-suffering girlfriend Sid (Melanie Griffith) on a drug robbery that will set them up for life. The seemingly straightforward robbery is a big success, but the subsequent drug sale is a disaster, and Mel and Bobbie are shot. The four seek refuge with the Reverend, who charges them half of their robbery haul to look after them. Mel leads the gang in a disastrous, ill-advised jewelry robbery in a desperate attempt to recoup their losses, and they become entangled in a web of violence that quickly escalates out of control.
