Annapolis
A shipbuilder's son, Jake Huard, promised his dying mother that he would make it to Anapolis Naval Academy before she passed away. He is selected despite receiving questionable grades as a result of persistently harassing a Congressman. Jake quickly demonstrates that he is below average in the classroom once he gets inside. The constant testing of his limits, as well as being called the "over-cocky" reason for the entire class to suffer, causes Jake to consider quitting; however, after facing his gloating father's disapproval, he returns just in time to finish the year strong. Aside from his friends and Senor Ali, his future lover, stubborn Jake finds support in a sport he may excel in: the 'brigade' boxing tournament, which is open to all ranks and is held every year.
