During the Russian invasion of Berlin in the spring of 1945, an unnamed woman keeps a diary. She is a patriotic journalist with international credentials in her early thirties, and her husband, Gerd, is a writer serving on the Russian front. She speaks Russian and manages to keep herself safe for a few days after the invasion, but then the rapes begin. She resolves to take charge of her destiny.
