This is a story about Fanis, a young Greek boy who lives in Istanbul with his grandfather, a culinary philosopher and mentor. He learns that both food and life need a little salt to make them taste good. a little bit of spice. Fanis grows up to be a very good cook and uses his cooking skills to make the lives of the people around him better. 35 years later, he leaves Athens and travels back to Istanbul, where he was born, to see his grandfather and the woman he was in love with at the time. He goes back, but he realizes that he didn't spice up his own life, so he goes back.
