The plot follows Jessica (Juliet Sorcey), an 11-year-old whose mother died when she was three years old. Jim (Doug Sheehan) is her father, and he is a workaholic with little time for his daughter. Jessica obtains a free wish from a wishing well shortly before the Christmas holiday season. Philomena (Doris Roberts) grants Jessica's wish for a mother for Christmas, and Amy (Newton-John), a department store mannequin, is brought to life to act as a mother for Jessica.
