An innocent young kid was killed by Laura Brummels, who might have avoided it, but chose not to. As a result of her reporting for a corrupt political government, she has been imprisoned by her own guilt. Laura, who has fallen out of favor with the administration, is sentenced to Aquila, a jail where no one ever escapes and where a yearly monsoon floods the prison, killing everyone inside. So there is hope for her: One of the notorious guards on duty is actually responsible for the death of the small kid. This is her opportunity to revenge the boy's death while also absolving herself of her guilt. Her big cell is full of surprises for her, however: another prisoner, Joseph, has escaped from Aquila and is striving to get out before the next flood hits. The stones on the prison ceiling can't be removed by him alone, despite his ingenious invention. Success depends on his persuading his new cellmate to give up murder in favor of a life of survival and an opportunity to break out.
