Tim is somewhat reclusive. At school, he becomes friends with another bashful youngster. However, the verbal and physical abuse by a group of children, as well as the aggressive use of social media, upset Tim's new companion, and he withdraws from him — an act of cowardice with deadly consequences. As a result of Tim's refusal to snitch, the bullies, particularly the gang's leader Jeff, appear to get away with their actions. He is one of the school's top athletes, and his 1.54-second 800m run seemed to ensure him a spot in the national championships. When Tim begins practicing to face Jeff, even using a girlfriend as cover, his adversaries appear eager to go to any length to stop him.
